Welcome! I’m so thankful to be able to share the Journey Home with you because this is one I have been traveling for the past several years. It began when, in real despair, I asked the Lord where to go to next. Instead of directing me to a specific place, He comforted me with the portions of scripture, songs, and images that I will be sharing with you. I did eventually leave the physical place of distress that I was in, but the journey out has proven to be much more important than any given destination. This is the very essence of Salvation: not merely getting in to heaven one day, but growing in relationship with the God who redeems all the things we walk through on our way to the promised happy end. So we will be looking closely at how God uses the points of pain and places of suffering throughout daily human life to reveal His intimate care and saving love. Please savor these emails, videos, pictures, and songs as food for thought, nourishment for the soul, moments of reflection, and a speaking for your heart. The journey, the process, the visions and wonder are our focus and main course, the very substance of life and joy of salvation.
A New Year
The celebration of Passover is meant to launch the new year for God’s people, a year that begins in bondage to fear and ends in worship of God. This chapter looks at the ways that God frees His people from their pain with continual revelations of Himself in their midst. Their growing awareness of God with them culminates in a feast for His people to taste and see that He is good, a feast prepared in the presence of enemies that makes them strong, filled, and ready to arise to new life as the day of their deliverance dawns.
Raised to Life
This chapter looks at the ways that the Lord invites His people to see His glory in their daily lives. As they surrender the textures and flavors, sights and seasoning of their old life, they have a way of meeting with God established among them. God displays His glory not by leaving the past behind, but by weaving His own purposes and nature, His character and plans into the fabric of His people. Just as the unleavened bread was made of dough formed in Egypt, the Lord gives fulfillment and new life to all we bring with us, all we have, and all we are in our new lives with Him.
You Are Home
Once the glory of God is established, His seat of mercy realized in the midst of His people, the camp takes shape around it. Israel becomes a people who carry the mercy of God and who find rest around meeting with Him at the center of the camp, heart of their being, and core of their identity. This chapter reflects on how the true name and nature of His people, the calling of each life, is found in a life arranged around God.
Be My Love
Home is not a place you stay; it’s a place you continually return to for refreshment, cleansing, food, and rest. We are not meant to stay in a place, but to abide in His love. Once we are mature sons, we are sent forth as branches from the Vine to be fruitful as we live rooted in and outspread with His love.
