Raised to Life
Marah and Elim
At Marah, the Lord prescribes and gives a rule for life that through hearing His voice, they will not suffer the same disease as others. He reveals Himself to them from this place of bitterness as the Lord who heals, and bring them into an oasis of palm trees and springs.
The Life of a Palm
The life of a palm tree is one of outwardly wasting away, yet inwardly being renewed. It rises from painful circumstance of rejection, tearing, violence, and death to a fruitfulness that is far above. The outer leaves that die form the protective bark as the inner life rises again and again through each experience of suffering, to stand tall, incorruptible, and give oasis in the desert.
The Ministry of Ithamar
The oasis of rest and healing that palms bring to those in dry places is central to the ministry of God among His people. Aaron’s son, Ithamar, whose name means palm, is appointed to have his hand upon the ministry for the suffering and sick.
